ACCA After a Bachelor's Degree in Pakistan 2026: Eligibility, Exemptions and Study Route
Last updated: 29 September 2026 · Innate Business School
Short answer: if you hold a four year B.Com, BBA, BS Accounting and Finance or equivalent from a Pakistani university, you can register for ACCA immediately. ACCA Pakistan lists four exemptions for most relevant bachelor's degrees, which leaves nine papers to sit. Budget roughly PKR 13.5 lakh to affiliate status and plan for two and a half to three years of study.
That exemption number will surprise you, because most websites promise nine. This guide explains where that figure comes from, why it rarely applies to a Pakistani graduate, and what your actual route looks like.
Are You Eligible? Start With Your Degree Structure
ACCA has no minimum grade requirement for graduates. If your degree is recognised, you register and begin. The complication in Pakistan is that the Higher Education Commission restructured undergraduate education, so the label on your certificate matters.
| Your qualification | ACCA entry route | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 4 year B.Com, BBA, BS A&F | Direct entry to ACCA Qualification | Standard graduate route |
| 2 year B.Com (pre 2020) | Direct entry, fewer exemptions | HEC has phased these out |
| Associate Degree Programme (ADP) | Direct entry to ACCA Qualification | Treated as 14 years of education |
| M.Com, MBA, MS Finance | Direct entry | Postgraduate study rarely adds exemptions |
| I.Com only | Foundation level (FIA) first | Two exemptions at Foundation stage |
If you completed a two year B.Com before HEC withdrew recognition, you can still register with ACCA. ACCA assesses your transcript on its own terms and does not apply HEC's domestic policy. Your exemption award may simply be smaller.
The Nine Exemption Myth, and What ACCA Pakistan Actually Publishes
Search for ACCA exemptions after B.Com and you will find dozens of pages promising up to nine. Nine is the ceiling written into ACCA's rules, not the award a typical graduate receives.
Here is what ACCA's own Pakistan page publishes:
| Pakistani qualification | Exemptions awarded |
|---|---|
| I.Com | 2 (FA1 and FA2, Foundation level) |
| B.Com, 4 years | 4 |
| M.Com | 4 |
| BSc Accounting and Finance | 4 |
| MSc Accounting and Finance | 4 |
Two rules govern everything above:
- Nine is the absolute maximum. Exemptions are available only across the three Applied Knowledge papers and the six Applied Skills papers.
- Strategic Professional is never exempt. No degree, no master's, no prior professional qualification will excuse you from SBL, SBR and your two Options papers. Everyone sits those four.
The nine paper awards do exist. They go to graduates of programmes ACCA has formally accredited, where the university negotiated a mapping of its syllabus against ACCA's. A small number of Pakistani university programmes hold that accreditation. Most do not.
What this means for you: your exemption award depends on your specific university, your specific degree title and your year of graduation. Two students with identical B.Com certificates from different universities can receive different awards. The only authoritative answer comes from ACCA's exemption database, and it is free to check.
Which Papers You Will Actually Sit
Assuming a four exemption award, which usually covers the three Applied Knowledge papers plus Corporate and Business Law, your route looks like this.
| Level | Papers | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Applied Knowledge | BT, MA, FA | Usually exempt |
| Applied Skills | LW | Usually exempt |
| Applied Skills | PM, TX, FR, AA, FM | 5 papers to sit |
| Strategic Professional | SBL, SBR | 2 papers to sit |
| Strategic Professional | 2 Options from AFM, APM, ATX, AAA | 2 papers to sit |
| Ethics module | EPSM | Compulsory, online |
That is nine exams plus the Ethics and Professional Skills Module. For what each paper demands, our complete guide to all ACCA papers covers difficulty and study hours paper by paper.
Notice where your workload sits. Exemptions remove the easiest papers. What remains is Applied Skills and the whole of Strategic Professional, which is the hardest two thirds of the qualification. Graduates who assume exemptions make ACCA easy are usually the ones who fail FR or SBR first time.
What It Costs in Pakistani Rupees
ACCA bills in pounds. Figures below convert at a planning rate of PKR 385 to £1, which allows for bank markup above the interbank rate of roughly PKR 374.
| Item | GBP | PKR |
|---|---|---|
| Initial registration | £89 | 34,265 |
| Exemption fees (3 Applied Knowledge, 1 Applied Skills) | £372 | 143,220 |
| Annual subscription, 3 years | £420 | 161,700 |
| 5 Applied Skills exams | £800 | 308,000 |
| SBL | £282 | 108,570 |
| SBR plus 2 Options | £624 | 240,240 |
| EPSM | £83 | 31,955 |
| Affiliate subscription | £163 | 62,755 |
| ACCA fees to affiliate | £2,833 | 1,090,705 |
| Tuition, 9 papers online | 235,000 | |
| Study materials | 22,000 | |
| Total to affiliate | PKR 13,47,705 |
Add £326 (PKR 125,510) for admission to membership once you complete your practical experience, taking the full route to roughly PKR 14.7 lakh.
Two comparison points worth knowing:
- A school leaver with no exemptions pays around PKR 16.9 lakh for the same destination.
- A graduate of an accredited nine exemption programme pays around PKR 12.1 lakh.
Exemptions are not free. Your four exemptions cost PKR 143,220, against PKR 205,975 to sit those same four papers. The fee saving is PKR 62,755, which is real but modest. The time saving of two full exam sittings is worth considerably more. Our full ACCA cost breakdown sets out every fee, including the ones that catch students out.
The expensive mistake to avoid: missing a standard entry deadline. Late entry on SBR costs PKR 179,795 against PKR 80,080, a penalty of PKR 99,715 for one missed click. Keep our ACCA exam dates and deadlines guide open when you plan sittings.
How Long It Takes
Nine papers across four sittings a year, at two papers per sitting, is five sittings of exams.
| Stage | Papers | Elapsed time |
|---|---|---|
| Registration and exemption assessment | 4 to 6 weeks | |
| Applied Skills block 1 | PM, FM | Months 1 to 5 |
| Applied Skills block 2 | FR, TX | Months 6 to 10 |
| Applied Skills block 3 plus EPSM | AA, EPSM | Months 11 to 15 |
| Strategic Professional block 1 | SBL, SBR | Months 16 to 21 |
| Strategic Professional block 2 | 2 Options | Months 22 to 27 |
That is roughly 27 months, call it two and a half years, with no resits. Build in one resit and you are at three years. Attempting three papers per sitting looks faster on paper and usually is not, because a single failure costs you a full sitting cycle.
The 36 month practical experience requirement runs alongside your exams. If you are already working in a finance role, you are accumulating it now.
Is ACCA Worth It After a Bachelor's Degree?
Two things make the graduate route attractive in Pakistan specifically.
HEC recognises ACCA membership as equivalent to an M.Com. The Higher Education Commission treats ACCA membership as equivalent to a Master in Commerce, representing 16 years of education. Members apply for an individual equivalence certificate through the HEC portal at eservices.hec.gov.pk. HEC has advised universities and employers to treat ACCA members as master's degree holders for admission and employment. Your bachelor's plus ACCA therefore leaves you with a professional qualification and a recognised postgraduate equivalence.
The earnings gap opens quickly.
| Stage | B.Com graduate, no qualification | ACCA affiliate or member |
|---|---|---|
| Entry level | PKR 40,000 to 70,000 | PKR 80,000 to 200,000 |
| 3 to 6 years | PKR 80,000 to 180,000 | PKR 200,000 to 600,000 |
| Gulf market | Limited recognition | AED 15,000 to 35,000 per month |
Our ACCA jobs in Pakistan guide covers roles and salaries by city and sector. If you are still weighing ACCA against ICAP's CA, our ACCA vs CA comparison sets both routes side by side.
The honest caveat: ACCA is worth it if you finish. A graduate who registers, sits three papers and stops has spent several lakh on an incomplete credential. Completion rate, not enrolment, is what pays.
Your First 30 Days: A Checklist
- Run ACCA's exemption calculator at accaglobal.com with your exact degree title, university and graduation year. Do this before anything else.
- Decide which exemptions to claim. If your award includes FR, AA or FM, think carefully. Skipping FR makes SBR harder, skipping AA makes AAA harder, skipping FM makes AFM harder. You will sit those Strategic Professional papers regardless.
- Register with ACCA and pay the exemption fees. Exemptions are applied at registration.
- Pick your first two papers. PM and FM pair well. FR and TX also work.
- Book tuition aligned to a specific sitting, not a generic course. Our guide to the best ACCA institutes in Pakistan explains what to look for.
- Diarise the standard entry deadline for your target sitting.
Where IBS Fits
Graduates skip Foundation and land directly in Applied Skills and Strategic Professional, which is exactly the range Innate Business School teaches. Sir Yasir Yamin, FCCA, FCMA and ICAEW qualified, leads teaching on FR, FM, SBR and SBL, the four papers that decide how quickly a graduate qualifies.
IBS runs session specific courses in Urdu and Hindi, built for a named sitting rather than a generic syllabus. For graduates with an exam already booked, the ACCA 30 Days Challenge provides structured revision, a full mock and feedback.

ACCA fees are taken from ACCA's published list for the December 2026 session and converted at a planning rate of PKR 385 to £1. Exemption entitlements are set by ACCA and vary by institution. Confirm your own position using ACCA's exemption calculator at accaglobal.com before registering.
Frequently Asked Questions
ACCA Pakistan publishes four exemptions for a four year B.Com. Nine is the maximum possible but is generally reserved for graduates of ACCA accredited programmes. Check your exact entitlement using ACCA's exemption calculator, because the award depends on your university, degree title and graduation year.
Yes. A four year BBA gives direct entry to the ACCA Qualification. Exemption awards for BBA vary more than for B.Com because syllabus content differs between universities, so check the database rather than assuming.
Around two and a half to three years with a four exemption award, sitting two papers per session. Graduates with larger awards can finish in 18 to 24 months.
No. ACCA awards no exemptions from any Strategic Professional paper, regardless of your degree or prior qualification.
HEC recognises ACCA membership as equivalent to an M.Com, representing 16 years of education. Members obtain an equivalence certificate through eservices.hec.gov.pk.
Not always. Exemptions from FR, AA or FM remove the technical foundation for SBR, AAA and AFM, which you must sit anyway. Paying to skip a paper and then failing its Strategic Professional successor twice costs more than sitting it once.
